Overview
Coze is ByteDance's no-code platform for building AI agents and apps from prompts, workflows, plugins and knowledge bases, then publishing them to Discord, Telegram, Slack, LINE, WhatsApp, Lark, a web SDK or Coze's own API. The international edition is run by Singapore-based SPRING (SG) Pte. Ltd. Coze Studio and Coze Loop are open source under Apache 2.0. 国内对应的开发平台现名"扣子编程"（code.coze.cn）。

Coze remains one of the quickest ways to get a working agent onto Discord, Telegram, Slack or a website without code, and its July 2025 Apache 2.0 release of Coze Studio and Coze Loop means you can self-host instead of trusting ByteDance's cloud.
Caveats: credit costs vary up to 50-fold by model, premium credits only cover a few channels, and API calls are billed separately after 30 free ones. The China edition has split into 扣子 (a workplace assistant) and 扣子编程 (the builder), and coze.com's own metadata hints at a similar shift. The international site is run from Singapore, but check its terms before putting regulated data in it.
What we found
Coze is ByteDance's no-code builder for AI agents: you assemble a bot from a prompt, a chosen model, plugins, workflows, a knowledge base and memory, then publish it. On the international site the targets are Discord, Telegram, Slack, LINE, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Reddit and Lark, plus a web Chat SDK and Coze's own chat API, which is not OpenAI-compatible despite earlier versions of this page saying so. That site is run by SPRING (SG) Pte. Ltd., a Singapore entity, which matters to buyers in the region weighing where their data sits.
The most consequential change came in July 2025, when ByteDance released Coze Studio and the Coze Loop evaluation tool under the Apache 2.0 licence. Teams uneasy about a hosted ByteDance service can run the builder themselves; the README asks for a two-core, 4 GB machine with Docker. Coze Studio's last tagged release was v0.5.1 in February 2026, so check its activity before committing to it.
Hosted pricing is a daily-credit scheme. Free gives 10 credits a day; Premium Lite ($9 a month) gives 100, Premium ($19) 400 and Premium Plus ($39) 1,000, each with a three-day trial. A call costs 0.1 credits on GPT-4o mini and 5 on GPT-5, so a plan's real capacity depends on the model, and premium credits only cover chats in Coze's store, Telegram and Discord. API use beyond 30 free calls is billed separately in Coze tokens.
Know which Coze you are getting. In China, the January 2026 Coze 2.0 relaunch moved the 扣子 name to ByteDance's workplace assistant, covered separately in this directory as Coze Space, and renamed the developer platform 扣子编程, now pitched at vibe-coding apps as well as agents. The international coze.com still serves the classic builder, although its search metadata already describes an office-productivity suite.
For community bots and quick prototypes Coze remains a capable free start; for regulated data, self-host Coze Studio instead.
