Cosine has moved from a single benchmark-headline agent to a full platform: CLI, desktop and cloud surfaces, parallel agents in isolated MicroVMs, explicit modes and approval gates on every write. The Lumen models target legacy and niche languages, and fully air-gapped deployment sets it apart for banks, healthcare and defence.
Treat the benchmarks as vendor claims, since Niche-Bench and its siblings are Cosine's own. With no free plan, the $19 Starter tier is the cheapest way to test it on your own repository before a larger commitment.
What we found
Cosine is a London AI lab, operated by Buildt AI Limited, that trains coding models and sells a coding agent around them. It came to attention in August 2024 with Genie, which Cosine said scored 30% on SWE-Bench, a figure it presented as a record and which was self-reported. The same month it announced a $2.5 million seed round from SOMA and Uphonest, with Lakestar and Focal joining, according to Tech.eu. In a Latent Space interview, chief executive Alistair Pullen described training Genie on records of how human engineers actually work.
The Genie name has since gone from Cosine's site. The product is now Cosine itself: a terminal CLI, a desktop app and a cloud platform that runs agents in parallel inside isolated MicroVMs, with manual, auto, plan and swarm modes and approval before anything is pushed or posted. It runs Cosine's own Lumen models, Scout (post-trained from Devstral) and Outpost (post-trained from Kimi K2.6), alongside third-party models, and can sign in with a ChatGPT or Claude subscription.
Benchmark claims need care. Cosine's May 2026 report puts Outpost at 53.9% on Niche-Bench against 48.3% for Kimi K2.6 and 47.4% for GPT-5.5, but Niche-Bench and its sibling tests are Cosine's own internal benchmarks. The bigger bet is Lumen Sovereign, a planned UK frontier model trained on the Isambard-AI supercomputer with a coalition including BT, HSBC, Lloyds and NatWest; Cosine's roadmap puts commercial launch in 2027. The Financial Times, as quoted on Cosine's newsroom, described a company of about 30 people that had raised $15 million.
Pricing is credit-based with no free plan. The pricing page starts at $19 a month for 4 million credits and lists $199 and $999 plans, while the billing docs add $49 and $99 steps, and paid teams can add members at no extra cost. Earlier versions of this page described a free tier and per-seat plans; neither exists now.
