What we found
Blackbox AI built its audience as a cheap coding assistant: a browser extension that pulled code out of screenshots and tutorial videos, then a VS Code extension, a chat site and an agent, sold on low monthly plans. That business has gone. Blackbox AI Technologies Inc., based on Mission Street in San Francisco, now presents itself as an enterprise inference provider, and its sign-up link leads to a page announcing a move to enterprise-only access, with a form for refunds and account help. Its old chat page returns a 404, as does the VS Code Marketplace listing we checked.
What it sells now is one API endpoint for more than 300 open and closed models, with end-to-end encryption between client and model, contractual zero data retention, a filter that strips personal data before prompts reach closed models, dedicated single-tenant deployments and fine-tuning of open-weight models. The CLI, an agents API for cloud coding agents and the Chairman multi-model orchestration feature remain as metered surfaces.
Pricing is an annual prepaid commitment drawn down per token at published list rates, for example $3 input and $15 output per million tokens for kimi-k3, with discounts of at least 5% on closed models and 10% on open ones as the commitment grows. Unused commitment expires at the end of the period. There are no seat or platform fees, and a forward-deployed engineer is included.
Two caveats carry over from the consumer era. Security researchers have reported prompt-injection flaws in Blackbox tools: a 2024 CVE covering chat data exfiltration, and a March 2026 ERNW write-up showing the VS Code agent could be steered into running a reverse shell, which said Blackbox did not answer disclosure emails. And billing complaints were common enough that former subscribers should use the refund form rather than assume old plans continue. Earlier ratings quoted here could not be re-read and have been removed.
