Athelas Ambient AI is broader than a plain scribe: it drafts the note, suggests codes and modifiers, and handles pre-visit summaries and post-visit orders and referrals, backed by Commure's billing stack and options for human documentation support. Its scale claims, 40 million encounters a year and HCA and Tenet as customers, are the vendor's, and a KLAS First Look rests on a small sample.
Pricing is quote-only and the free trial is undefined. Best for US practices that also want Commure's billing or Air EHR; for others, a UK Class I registration since September 2026 is the first sign of reach beyond the US.
What we found
Athelas Ambient AI is the ambient scribe sold under the Athelas brand by Athelas Inc., which is wholly owned by Commure. The two companies merged in October 2023 with Athelas co-founder Tanay Tandon as chief executive, and in October 2024 Commure completed its roughly $139 million purchase of the scribe company Augmedix. The same engine is sold to health systems as Commure Ambient AI, while athelas.com pitches it to independent practices and specialty groups alongside its Air EHR, billing service and voice agents. Earlier versions of this page called it the renamed Athelas Scribe; no current page supports that, and the old scribe documentation site no longer resolves.
The scribe records the visit in more than 60 languages, drafts a structured note, suggests ICD-10 and CPT codes with modifiers, and covers pre-visit summaries, intake and care prompts as well as post-visit orders, referrals and after-visit summaries. Commure sells it at four levels: self-service Ambient AI, Ambient Assist with documentation specialists refining drafts, Ambient Live with dedicated support for complex procedural care, and Ambient+, which adds autonomous coding and dictation. Commure says it integrates with more than 60 EHRs.
The figures on the Athelas page are the vendor's: 40 million encounters scribed a year, notes closed in 43 seconds on average, an 81% cut in documentation time and 25% fewer denials. HCA and Tenet are named customers. A KLAS First Look report found every surveyed customer would buy again, from what Commure calls a select sample. A 93.3 score quoted here earlier could not be found, and adoption and revenue figures from case studies could not be traced; all were removed.
No prices are published. A "Try Ambient AI for free" link opens the Commure Ambient app without stating what the trial includes. In September 2026 Commure Ambient AI was CE-marked and MHRA-registered as a Class I device and offered in the UK with local data residency. There is no ASEAN offering.
