How to use the Working Days Calculator

Pick your start + end dates

Both dates included in the count. Default: today + 30 days. Useful for: project SLAs, contract delivery dates, employment notice periods, banking processing time, government deadlines.

    Choose the country

Built-in 2025-2026 gazetted public holiday data for Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam. Pick "None" if you only want to exclude weekends without any holiday adjustment. State/regional holidays (e.g., specific Malaysian state holidays) NOT included — only national.

    Read the working day count

Headline = working days in your range (excluding weekends + holidays in the selected country). The breakdown shows total calendar days, weekends excluded, holidays excluded, and the final working day count. Each holiday is listed individually for verification.

Use for SLA + project planning

"5 working days" promises depend on the country\'s holiday calendar. A 5-working-day SLA spanning Singapore\'s CNY week becomes ~10 calendar days. Always specify which country\'s working-day calendar applies in cross-border SLAs or expect disputes.

Working days — the calendar math that drives real-world deadlines

Most business deadlines, legal SLAs, and contractual durations are measured in "working days" — not calendar days. A 5-working-day delivery promise from Singapore made on Friday of Chinese New Year week could be 14+ calendar days due to weekends + public holidays. Without holiday-aware working-day math, project schedules slip + customers get false promises. This calculator handles the math for ASEAN markets with built-in 2025-2026 gazetted holiday data for six countries — letting you plan accurately across borders.

Why working days vary so much across ASEAN

ASEAN holiday calendars are diverse and complex. Singapore: ~11 national public holidays/year, primarily religious (CNY, Hari Raya, Deepavali, Christmas, Vesak, Hari Raya Haji) + civic (National Day, Labour Day). Malaysia: ~13-15 national, plus state-level additions. Federal includes Hari Raya (2 days), Merdeka Day, Malaysia Day, religious days. Philippines: ~12 regular + special non-working holidays. Notable: extensive Holy Week observance, Bonifacio Day, Rizal Day. Indonesia: ~16 national, heaviest on Islamic holidays (Idul Fitri, Idul Adha) + Christian (Christmas, Good Friday) + Hindu/Buddhist (Nyepi, Waisak) + civic (Independence Day, Pancasila Day). Thailand: ~17 national, including King\'s + Queen\'s birthdays, Songkran (3-day water festival), Buddhist days. Vietnam: ~9 national but Tet (Lunar New Year) spans 5 days. Practical implication: an SLA that means "5 working days" in Singapore can mean very different actual durations in different ASEAN markets due to varying holiday density.

A "5 working day SLA" in Singapore during Chinese New Year week is ~14 calendar days; the same in Thailand during Songkran (April 13-15) is ~10 calendar days. Same SLA, very different real-world wait.

    The lunar holiday problem

Several major ASEAN holidays follow lunar or Islamic calendars, not the Gregorian calendar — meaning their dates SHIFT each year. Chinese New Year: lunar; ranges from late January to mid-February. 2025: Jan 29-30; 2026: Feb 17-18. Hari Raya Puasa (Eid al-Fitr): Islamic lunar; shifts ~11 days earlier each year. 2025: March 31; 2026: March 21. Hari Raya Haji (Eid al-Adha): Islamic lunar. 2025: June 7; 2026: May 28. Vesak / Wesak / Waisak: Buddhist lunar; May full moon. Deepavali / Diwali: Hindu lunar; October/November. Tet: Vietnamese lunar; same dates as Chinese New Year usually. For 2027 + later: holiday dates need to be added manually as gazette notifications are released. This tool covers 2025-2026 reliably; older + newer years use weekend exclusion only.

    Practical SLA + contract drafting

Cross-border business across ASEAN markets requires explicit working-day handling in contracts. Best practices: (1) Specify the country\'s working-day calendar applying to the SLA — "5 Singapore working days" is unambiguous; "5 working days" is not. (2) Use calendar days for cross-border services where the customer\'s working calendar differs from the provider\'s — easier to manage. (3) Add buffer time around major regional holidays — CNY week, Hari Raya week, Songkran, Tet all create extended slowdowns. (4) For payment terms: "Net 30 calendar days" is clearer than "Net 30 working days" given regional holiday variation. (5) For court + government deadlines: always use the local working-day calendar — court working days exclude national holidays + sometimes additional court-specific days.

10 Things to Know About Working Days

    01

Working days = business days minus public holidays. Critical for SLA + contract math.

    02

    Singapore: 11 public holidays/year. Malaysia + Indonesia + Thailand: 13-17. Vietnam: 9 (but Tet spans 5 days).

    03

Lunar holidays (CNY, Hari Raya, Vesak, Deepavali, Tet) shift dates each year — recalc annually.

    04

Hari Raya Puasa follows Islamic lunar calendar — shifts ~11 days earlier each Gregorian year.

    05

"5 working days" in Singapore during CNY week = ~14 calendar days. Plan SLAs around major holiday periods.

    06

Cross-border SLAs need explicit country specification: "5 Singapore working days" not "5 working days."

    07

Thai Songkran festival (April 13-15) creates a major 3-day national shutdown.

    08

Vietnamese Tet (Lunar New Year, ~5 days) effectively shuts down Vietnam for 1-2 weeks of reduced productivity.

    09

State-level holidays (e.g., specific Malaysian state holidays) NOT in this tool — only national.

    10

Calendar days = include weekends + holidays. Working days = exclude both. Always specify which in contracts.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    • Yes for 2025-2026 — based on gazetted public holidays from each country\'s official sources (MOM Singapore, KKM Malaysia, Official Gazette Philippines, etc.). Some holidays follow lunar/Islamic calendars and dates shift annually. For 2027+ or precise verification, always cross-check against each country\'s official gazette. Year-end announcements typically confirm next year\'s holidays in November-December.

    • Complexity. Malaysia has 13 states + federal territories, each with its own holiday calendar additions (Sultan\'s birthdays, state foundation days). Indonesia has 38 provinces with regional variations. Including state holidays would require 50+ separate lookup tables and significant maintenance overhead. For state-specific calculations: check the relevant state government website + manually subtract state-specific days from this tool\'s result.

    • This tool counts the holiday once — if the date IS a Sunday, it\'s counted as a weekend day (not double-counted as both weekend + holiday). "Observed" handling: in Singapore + several ASEAN markets, if a public holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is the "observed" public holiday. This tool includes both the original date + the official observed date when announced (e.g., 2026 SG National Day Aug 9 falls on Sunday — observed Monday Aug 10 included).

    • Not in this version — country selection drives all holidays. Workaround for company holidays (year-end shutdowns, annual leave days): manually subtract them from the working day count this tool gives. Workaround for state holidays: same — manually subtract state-specific days. For a fully custom holiday calendar tool, business calendar apps (Google Calendar with custom event calendars, Notion calendar views) work better.

    • Best practice: "X working days, exclusive of [country]\'s public holidays." Ambiguous: "5 working days" alone. For cross-border: specify whose working calendar applies. "5 Singapore working days from Provider receipt" is clear; "5 working days" leads to dispute. Common SLA language: "Response within 5 [country] working days, excluding [country] public holidays." Always specify country explicitly.

    • Used somewhat interchangeably, but technically: Business days = Mon-Fri only (excludes weekends only). Working days = business days minus public holidays. Common usage: "business days" often implies the broader holiday-aware count anyway. For precision in legal documents, use "working days exclusive of public holidays" to remove ambiguity.

    • Islamic months begin with the sighting of the new crescent moon, which varies slightly by location due to atmospheric conditions + observer position. Most countries use astronomical calculation + religious authority confirmation. Singapore + Malaysia typically align (both observe same dates); Indonesia sometimes diverges by 1 day; Brunei often aligns with Singapore/Malaysia. Implication: cross-country business spanning Hari Raya often has 1-2 day discrepancies in observed dates. Check each country\'s gazette for exact dates.

    • Currently covers 2025-2026. Lunar holiday dates beyond 2026 require official gazette confirmation as they\'re released. For 2027+ calculations, the tool will only exclude weekends (no holiday exclusion). Will be updated for 2027 once each country\'s gazette confirms holiday dates (typically late 2026 or early 2027).
