Zscaler AI Protect is the AI-security layer of Zscaler's Zero Trust Exchange, launched in January 2026. It inventories the AI apps, models, agents and MCP servers in use, controls and inspects access to GenAI services, and red-teams and guards AI apps that companies build themselves. It is sold as an add-on to Zscaler platform subscriptions, by quote.

AI Protect tackles a real problem for large enterprises: staff and developers are already using AI that security teams cannot see. Discovery across 2,900+ recognised AI apps, inline prompt inspection and automated red teaming of in-house AI and MCP servers cover the main bases, and the SPLX and Symmetry Systems deals show Zscaler buying depth quickly, especially for AI agents.
Almost everything verifiable is still vendor description; no field reviews of the AI modules could be found, and prices are not published. It is a natural add-on for existing Zscaler customers and a hard standalone purchase for anyone else.
What we found
Zscaler AI Protect is the AI-security layer of Zscaler's Zero Trust Exchange, the cloud proxy platform that already sits between many large companies and the internet. Zscaler announced it on 27 January 2026 as an AI Security suite and now sells it under the AI Protect name; earlier versions of this page called it simply Zscaler AI and pointed at the company homepage. Much of the testing side came from SPLX, an AI red-teaming start-up Zscaler bought in November 2025.
The product has three parts. AI Asset Management inventories AI apps, models, agents, MCP servers and infrastructure, and Zscaler says it recognises more than 2,900 AI apps, which is how it finds shadow AI. Secure Access to AI controls who may use which AI services, inspects prompts inline and keeps sensitive data out of them. Secure AI Apps and Infrastructure serves teams building their own AI: automated red teaming across what the product page calls 5,000+ attack scenarios, prompt hardening and runtime guardrails, mapped to MITRE ATLAS, NIST and the EU AI Act. At Zenith Live in June 2026 Zscaler added 16 capabilities, including multi-turn prompt inspection, replay of prompt and response activity, support for the Anthropic and OpenAI compliance APIs and red teaming against MCP servers.
The agent push continues. The product page now lists an AI Gateway with MCP and agent-to-agent brokers, Endpoint AI Security for browsers, extensions and plugins, and an AI Access Graph. On 21 May 2026 Zscaler announced its intent to acquire Symmetry Systems, whose access graph maps which human and non-human identities reach which data. Two days earlier it launched Project AI-Guardian, a services programme with integrators including Cognizant, HCLTech and Infosys.
Nothing here is self-serve. Zscaler's plans page lists GenAI Security and AI posture management as add-on modules without prices, and buying starts with a demo. No user rating for the AI modules specifically could be found. It makes most sense for organisations already running Zscaler for internet access.
