WeRide is one of the most widely deployed autonomous-driving companies outside the US: more than 1,800 robotaxis, fully driverless service in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and second-quarter 2026 revenue up 82.2%. For ASEAN it is already on the road, as the Robobus at Sentosa and the vehicles behind Grab's Ai.R shuttles in Punggol, which were still free to ride in October 2026 after paid fares slipped past mid-year.
It is not a product you sign up for. There is no API or price list, and engagement runs through operators, automakers and governments. Watch whether Punggol moves to paid, on-demand service in the fourth quarter as planned; that is the clearest regional signal.
What we found
WeRide (文远知行) is a Guangzhou-based autonomous-driving company, established in 2017 and led by founder and CEO Tony Han, formerly chief scientist of Baidu's autonomous driving unit. It sells five products: the GXR robotaxi, the Robobus minibus, the Robovan, the Robosweeper and WRD 3.0, an assisted-driving stack for passenger cars. Its shares trade on Nasdaq as WRD and, since November 2025, in Hong Kong as 0800.
Second-quarter 2026 results, released on 12 August, put revenue at 231.7 million yuan, up 82.2% on a year earlier, with a 37.5% gross margin. At 31 July the Level 4 fleet was about 3,400 vehicles, more than 1,800 of them robotaxis averaging over 21 rides a day each. About 400 robotaxis run in the Middle East, where WeRide operates fully driverless services in Abu Dhabi and Dubai with Uber. The company says it now works in more than 60 cities across 13 countries, and WRD 3.0 has production wins on more than 30 models from Chery, GAC and others.
Singapore is where ASEAN readers will meet it. A WeRide Robobus has run at Resorts World Sentosa since 2024. In Punggol, WeRide supplies the vehicles for Ai.R, the shuttle service Grab operates, which opened to the public on 1 April 2026 on three loop routes. A flat S$4 fare was planned from mid-2026 but was pushed back, and the Ai.R site was still offering free rides, Monday to Saturday, when read on 14 October 2026. An on-demand pilot announced with the Land Transport Authority on 29 July is due to open to the public in the fourth quarter. Grab committed to an equity investment in WeRide in August 2025 to fund robotaxis and shuttles across the region.
WeRide is a supplier and operator, not a self-serve product: there is no developer API or public price list, and riders pay operators such as Uber or Grab. In China, its own WeRide GO app books robotaxis.
