MaxKB (Max Knowledge Brain) is an open-source platform from FIT2CLOUD's 1Panel team for building enterprise-grade AI agents. It combines a RAG pipeline (document upload and web crawling, auto chunking and vectorisation), a workflow engine with a function library and MCP tool-use, and a model-agnostic, multimodal design that works with many LLM providers. MaxKB is one of the more mature open-source agent/RAG platforms out of China, pairing an easy knowledge-base ingestion flow with a real workflow engine and MCP tool-use, which makes it viable for production chatbots and internal assistants rather than just demos. Its model-agnostic design avoids vendor lock-in.
Because it is self-hostable and not tied to a specific cloud, ASEAN teams can run it anywhere, and the project has English documentation alongside Chinese. The GPLv3 licence and the operational burden of self-hosting RAG infrastructure are the main considerations for adopters.
