ASEAN Perspective
Eightfold AI in Southeast Asia
Eightfold AI operates across 19 countries and has a significant India R&D presence — nearly 300 staff across Bangalore and Noida — which provides some proximity to ASEAN talent markets. However, confirmed customer wins in Southeast Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam) are not publicly documented, and the platform's pricing (starting at ~$150K/yr) places it out of reach for most ASEAN enterprises outside of MNC regional HQs. For ASEAN buyers, the strongest use case is multinational corporations using Eightfold to manage APAC talent pipelines from a centralised platform, though buyers should verify local data-residency requirements and ATS integration compatibility before committing.
Eightfold is a mature enterprise platform: skills-based matching across hiring, internal mobility and workforce planning, an AI Interviewer that screens candidates in more than 24 languages with fraud detection, and an unusually full compliance list, including FedRAMP Moderate authorisation and ISO 42001. Its 1.6-billion-profile data claim is the vendor's own.
Two things belong on a buyer's checklist: no public pricing, and a pending FCRA class action in federal court in Northern California arguing its match scores are consumer reports. A new chief executive took over in October 2026. Best suited to large employers with legal and procurement teams to match.
What we found
Eightfold AI sells talent intelligence to large employers: software that infers skills from career histories, matches people to roles and now runs AI agents across hiring. Ashutosh Garg and Varun Kacholia set the company up in 2016, and it is based in Santa Clara, California. Its central claim, made on its own homepage, is scale: models built on 1.6 billion career trajectories and 1.6 million skills. Those figures are Eightfold's own and have not been audited by anyone else.
The product has moved towards agents. AI Interviewer conducts conversational screening interviews in more than 24 languages, summarises each for recruiters and flags fraud signals such as tab switching and camera manipulation, with identity checks through partners including ID.me and CLEAR. Eightfold says it evaluates what candidates say, not how they look or sound, and publishes third-party bias audit results. Around it sit an AI Interview Companion, a Candidate Agent, talent acquisition and talent management suites, resource management, and TalentForge, a low-code builder for custom HR applications on the same data. The trust page lists FedRAMP Moderate authorisation, ISO 42001, 27001, 27017 and 27701 certification, and a SOC 2 Type II attestation.
Leadership changed on 13 October 2026, when Eightfold named Joe Korngiebel, formerly chief technology officer at Workday, as chief executive; Garg became chairman. The last disclosed funding was a $220 million Series E in June 2021 led by SoftBank Vision Fund 2, which press reports put at a $2.1 billion valuation.
Buyers should also track litigation. A proposed class action under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, pending in the US District Court for the Northern District of California since March 2026, argues that Eightfold's candidate profiles and match scores are consumer reports. Eightfold has moved to dismiss; the court vacated the hearing in July and, as of the latest docket entry on 24 September 2026, had not ruled. No pricing is published, and per-employee figures quoted elsewhere could not be traced.

Notable facts
- Both founders — Ashutosh Garg and Varun Kacholia — were AI engineers at Google and Facebook respectively before co-founding Eightfold in 2016.
- The platform's proprietary dataset has grown from 1 billion to 1.6 billion career profiles since launch — a self-refreshing corpus updated continuously from public sources.
- Eightfold's open-source design system Octuple (MIT licence, 71 forks on GitHub) powers the company's own UI and has been released publicly for enterprise design teams.
- A January 2026 class-action lawsuit frames Eightfold's AI scoring as a hidden consumer report — a novel legal theory that could reshape how all AI hiring platforms are regulated in the US.
