Devin is the autonomous software-engineering agent from Cognition: given a task, it plans, writes, runs and tests code in its own virtual machines and opens a pull request for review. It runs as cloud agents, inside Devin Desktop (the former Windsurf IDE) and from a CLI, with an API for programmatic use. Self-serve plans run from Free to Max at $200 a month, with Teams and custom Enterprise pricing above.

Devin is strongest on well-scoped, repetitive engineering work: migrations, dependency upgrades, test coverage, vulnerability fixes and tickets with clear acceptance criteria, which it can work through in parallel while engineers review the pull requests. Since April 2026 it is also cheaper to start, with a Free plan and Pro at $20 a month replacing the old $500 Team entry point, and since June the same plan covers Devin Desktop, the former Windsurf IDE.
Outside testing still shows uneven results on ambiguous work, so budget for human review before merge. Cognition's new Singapore APAC headquarters makes it easier for ASEAN enterprises to buy and get support locally.
What we found
Devin is Cognition's autonomous coding agent. Given a task, it plans the work, writes and runs code in its own virtual machines, tests in its own browser and opens a pull request for review. Through 2026 it gained Windows machines and Android emulators, the ability to split large jobs across managed Devins and to schedule its own recurring sessions, Auto-Triage for bugs and alerts, and a Security Swarm that finds and fixes vulnerabilities. Cognition's Windsurf acquisition also changed what a subscription covers: in June 2026 Windsurf became Devin Desktop, so one plan now spans the cloud agent, the desktop IDE and a command-line client.
Pricing moved in April 2026. Cognition retired the Core plan and the $500-a-month Team plan, introduced Free, Pro at $20 a month, Max at $200 and Teams at $80 a month plus $40 per full seat, and began billing self-serve overage in dollars at API rates rather than ACUs, which Enterprise contracts still use. Ask Devin, DeepWiki and Devin Review, previously free, became paid.
The company figures are Cognition's own. It raised more than $1 billion at a $26 billion valuation in May 2026 and over $2 billion at $48 billion in September, led by Andreessen Horowitz and Accel, and says run-rate revenue passed $1 billion on 25 September. It also says 89% of the code its engineers commit is committed by Devin. In April 2026 it opened an APAC headquarters in Singapore and named OCBC as a customer.
Outside evidence is more mixed. Answer.AI's month-long test, published in January 2025, recorded 3 successes, 14 failures and 3 inconclusive results across 20 tasks. A paper at the MSR 2026 conference, covering 7,156 agent-written pull requests, found Devin's acceptance rate was the only one trending upward, by about 0.77% a week over 32 weeks, though its overall rate of 61.6% trailed Codex, Copilot and Cursor in the same data. Treat it as a capable delegate for well-scoped work, with human review before merge.
