Adept was an early, influential lab for agents that act on software: ACT-1 drove a browser from typed instructions in 2022, and it released Persimmon-8B and Fuyu-8B with open weights.
There is nothing to buy today. After Amazon hired the co-founders and licensed the technology in June 2024, the remaining company published once more, in August 2024. Its website now redirects to that blog archive and lists no contact route. It is of historical and research interest only; the open weights are the one usable artefact.
What we found
Adept is now an archive rather than a product. The adept.ai homepage redirects to the company blog, whose newest post is dated 23 August 2024, and pages that once carried a contact form or careers listing either redirect there or return 404. Archived copies show the "Contact us" homepage was still live on 1 April 2026; by August 2026 it was gone. There is nothing to sign up for and no published route to buy anything. Earlier versions of this page described an enterprise pilot programme that no longer exists.
The history explains why. Adept launched in April 2022 and raised over $415 million, including a $350 million Series B. Its ACT-1 demo in September 2022 showed a model driving a web browser from a typed instruction, and it released two models with open weights: Persimmon-8B under Apache 2.0 and the Fuyu-8B multimodal model under a non-commercial licence. Both remain downloadable from Hugging Face.
On 28 June 2024 Adept announced that its co-founders and some staff were joining Amazon's AGI organisation, that Amazon was licensing its agent technology, models and some datasets, and that head of engineering Zach Brock would become chief executive of a company refocused on "solutions that enable agentic AI". That August it described Adept Workflow Language, a JavaScript-like language for scripting agent actions. Nothing has been published since.
The people moved on too. In February 2026 GeekWire reported that David Luan was leaving Amazon, and that four of the five Adept co-founders who joined in 2024 had left. The FTC reportedly examined the deal in 2024.
The influence is real: GeekWire credits the team Luan led at Amazon with the Nova Act agent. But that is history, not a reason to pick a supplier. Researchers can still use the open weights, and anyone tracing how computer-use agents developed will find the blog useful. Buyers who need a working agent today should look elsewhere.
